Win XP & Win 98 sharing issue

    Hi all,

Greetings to everyone, I'm new here & I'm new as well in the IT industry. Recently I encountered some problem while I'm setting up a test environment, can anybody help me?

I've set up a simple network which consist of 8 computers of which 3 is Win XP, 3 is Win 98 & 2 is Win ME. They are all in the same subnet & workgroup.

There are some share folders in each computer, while I'm trying to access from Win XPs to the share folders on other OS there won't a problem, same goes to when I'm trying from the Win ME machines.

But when I try to access share folders on the Win XPs from the Win 98 machines, system would prompt me to enter password. Where as when I try to access to Win 98 & Win ME share folders from the Win 98 machine it won't prompt me to enter password. Why is that?

Can anybody help me? Thank you.

    Regards,

    Edwin

Re: Win XP & Win 98 sharing issue

Many people set up their Windows 98 machines using Windows Logon and no password. Try get the user login & create same user login inside Windows XP, blank the password if your Wndows 98 PC don't have a password.

    *note*
Password is important to prevent virus spreading.
